GaMaYo 23 Showcase #15:
Groblins in the Walls

More than 35 new games will be on show at GaMaYo on 21st November with 400 developers attending the event to try them out alongside publishers, investors and platform holders. The event is managed by Game Republic along with their Official Partners Red Kite Games, Barclays Games and Creative and Escape Technology

Today we look at demo number 15 confirmed to be at the event – a game from World 1-1 Studio

They’re in the Walls!

What would be your description of your game?

Defend your space! A VR defence game for Quest 3 where you take on waves of mischievous, tiny Groblins invading your real-world environment. Crush, throw, and fight them back using their own makeshift weapons. It’s your space—fight for it!

How did development start? Were there any key inspirations or ideas that drove you?

Development began after we completed a prototype for another game and prepared to present it at Frenzy in Glasgow. While in London, we were discussing Quest 3’s passthrough, iconic British media, and the influence of games like Fable with the use of many British accents.. This led us to The Borrowers, inspiring the concept for They’re in the Walls. We started working on it in our spare time, and a few weeks before Frenzy, we decided it was the perfect game to showcase.

Tell us about the team behind the game?

Thomas and Adrian, the founders, had just a few weeks to work on this concept. We reached out to Corrin, a friend with VR game experience, and Mia, a newcomer to 3D modelling. Together, we set up a makeshift pipeline and started development! Mia has been instrumental as she has just begun learning blender and has now gone to fully rigging and animating characters for the game!

What kind of experiences do you hope to bring players?

We want to transform each player’s space into an exciting battleground, bringing the joy and nostalgia of classic arcade games right into their own home. This game is for everyone – kids, adults, anyone who wants to get up and moving, whether they’re playing solo or with friends. We’re aiming for a fun, party-style game that’s just as great on your own as it is with a group.

In 10 words or less, highlight the appeal of the game?
