Today we look at demo number 12 confirmed to be at GaMaYo- a new experience from Judi Alston and Andy Campbell One to One Development Trust

Streets of Change

What would be your description of your game?

We hope to be showing a few different projects at GaMaYo including a mobile game that is in early stages of production, but the main project we’re showing is more of an immersive story than a game but built using game-engine tech. ‘Streets of Change’ is a 9-minute VR experience where the audience are plunged onto a dark and rainy street at night. Using poetry and fictionalised stories based on lived-life experiences, the experience offers an insight into some of the challenges and situations faced by rough sleepers every night in the UK.

How did development start? Were there any key inspirations or ideas that drove you?

Creating a VR experience about homelessness has been something we’ve wanted to do for a long time. We’ve always felt that VR would be a strong medium to give audiences a sense of what it might feel like to be alone, vulnerable, and isolated, evoking a sense of empathy and increased understanding about what is often a very complex and misunderstood social issue. We were delighted to be awarded innovation funding from West Northamptonshire Council to explore this concept alongside making a documentary film.

Tell us about the team behind the game?

We’re an award-winning arts organisation and registered charity based in Wakefield, who use film and immersive technologies to tell socially relevant stories affecting positive change. We’re only a small team but our work is far-reaching with high production standards!

What kind of experience do you hope to bring players?

A poetic, memorable and affecting experience that hopefully challenges preconceptions about homelessness and raises awareness about some of the issues behind it.

In 10 words or less, highlight the appeal of the game?

An atmospheric, thought provoking VR experience
