Wunder, by BumbleMumble
What would be your description of your game?
Wunder is a game of chance about flipping coins. You build a deck of coins, each with their own risk & reward; upgrade each side to tilt the odds in your favour, bolster your strategy with strange talismans and defeat the Ferryman at his own game.
How did development start? (Were there any key inspirations or ideas that drove you?)
The obvious inspirations are Balatro & Slay the Spire but I hadn’t player much of either when I started. I got really into a game called Nubby’s Number Factory and the demo for a game called Insider Trading.

I could see how Balatro-like was becoming it’s own little sub-genre and thought making my own could be a fun way to learn strategy and numbers design. I was wrapping up a big adventure game and I’d always focused on exploration & platforming gameplay, but since I want to do combat in my next game I started Wunder to learn how to make numbers interact in fun ways. I originally wanted to make a pokemon style turn-based battling roguelike but I somehow settled on flipping coins, from there it all slotted together. Coins lead to the Ferryman which lead to the map structure of the rivers of the Underworld.
Tell us about the team behind the game?
BumbleMumble is a 2 person team, me (bumbleborn/Joseph Fletcher-Ward) and my partner (mumble/Emily Harrison). I left my job as a Snr. Tech Designer last year after my first indie game, Echo: The Oracle’s Scroll did better than expected and won GOTY, Emily is a fantastic 3D Character Artist by trade and whilst she doesn’t have a lot of time to put into the game, all the good bits of art (like the coins) were made by her.
What kind of experiences do you hope to bring players?
The best games of this genre master the tightrope of bouncing between “It’s so over” and “we’re so back”, My hope is for players to risk everything and have it pay off… sometimes!

In 10 words or less, highlight the appeal of the game.
