What would be your description of your game?

The borrowers but you are the John Goodman! It’s like Shadow of the Colossus, but the giant is called Nigel and is just working his 9 to 5. It’s a chaotic multiplayer game where you play as exterminators, going into suburban British homes and wrangling Groblins with your bare hands. Work together to clear out the homes, but be warned the Groblins will fight back, climbing you and taking you down!

How did development start? (Were there any key inspirations or ideas that drove you?)

It began as a VR passthrough game we showed at Frenzy, but what stood out was people having fun together with it more than the VR part. It was shelved for a long time, then while eating reduced to clear quiche lorraine at comic con I got talking to others about games like REPO and Peak, and how its the most fun I have had with games in a long time. This led us back to the game, and we dusted it off. We went back to the drawing board, taking inspiration from the tales of Hobs on the North York Moors, to the tacky wallpaper we grew up with.

Tell us about the team behind the game?

From World1-1 we have Mia Coldwell who is an up and coming 3D artist, and Mia North who is a recent graduate from YSJ and an amazing concept artist. We have also been co-developing this with the spectacular studio Maximalist who we worked with on the initial version, and have the pleasure of working with for this iteration too!

What kind of experiences do you hope to bring players?

I hope they can laugh together and reminisce over memories of eating biscuits and watching cartoons at their Nans house. In all seriousness, I hope its something a bit different to what is current out there, a lot of these styles of games are about sneaking around and being careful, we want to encourage players to run in and then they can regret it later.

In 10 words or less, highlight the appeal of the game.

Wallace and Gromit meets lethal company… with added groblins.

Any links to access/wishlist the game?

We’re waiting on things being finalised on Steam but hopefully it should be ready by the time we demo at GaMaYo, you can keep up to date with things via our website: https://www.world1-1.studio/
