Star Gunners
We spoke to Nathan who filled us in on what to expect:
Star Gunners is a bullet hell action-adventure that throws you into a vibrant, interconnected planet teeming with explosive chaos, towering bosses, mind-bending puzzles, and hidden secrets at every turn. Inspired by the legendary 3D adventures of the late ’90s, you’ll blast your way through wild worlds and dangerous dungeons, rescuing captured Star Gunners along the way. Each rescued Star Gunner unlocks awesome new abilities to help you dive deeper into the colorful, action-packed world.
How did development start? Were there any key inspirations or ideas that drove you?
Star Gunners draws inspiration from the iconic classics of the Nintendo 64 era, blending elements reminiscent of Zelda and Jet Force Gemini. Influences from developers like Nintendo, Rare, and Treasure are deeply rooted in the game’s design, making it a true homage to this golden age of gaming. Originally conceived as a side project by one of our team members, we felt it had legs so decided to adopt it as our next game to work on After Spirit Hunters Infinite Horde.
Tell us about the team behind the game?
The team for Star Gunners is made up of 2 indie devs! Anthony “Windybeard” Enright – Has worked as a solo indie developer for many years releasing over 8 games onto Steam. His last game that he did solo was Galactic Mining Corp. Primary roles are Design, Art and VFX.
Nathan Buckley has experience across indie games, AA, and AAA teams, primarily as a programmer. He is co-developing Star Gunners with Anthony as the programmer for this project and wearing many other hats to fill gaps.
What kind of experiences do you hope to bring players?
We want players to jump in and start having fun right away, with easy-to-pick-up, action-packed combat that feels great from the first moment. As players dive deeper into the world and unlock new skills, the challenge naturally grows, keeping things fresh and exciting. Our goal is for players to get completely lost in the experience, enjoying the thrill of combat and blowing things up. Along the way, they’ll earn plenty of power-ups and upgrades to help them get stronger and progress. We encourage bold, daring play with big rewards for taking risks, but we’ve also made sure that those who prefer a more laid-back approach can still enjoy the game without feeling punished.
