Farewell North by Blank Keys Ltd
What would be your description of your game?
Play as a border collie and restore colour to your human’s world in an atmospheric journey through the northern isles of Scotland. Explore land and sea, uncover hidden paths, herd animals and free wildlife to bring colour back to her world, while revealing an emotional story about saying farewell.
How did development start? (Were there any key inspirations or ideas that drove you?)
Development began in 2020 just after moving from Canada to Scotland only to find myself locked down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I was inspired by the nature, folklore and landscapes of my new home, and while I was unable to physically explore the country due to the pandemic, Farewell North served as the perfect outlet to explore the country through research.
Tell us about the team behind the game?
Farewell North was created by Kyle Banks, a former software engineer who’d been dabbling in games on the side since 2013 before committing fully with Farewell North. John Konsolakis, our award winning composer, joined the project to bring the soundscape to life with his beautiful score. Johan Ross lent her voice to our main character, Cailey, and brought a level of authenticity that wouldn’t have been possible without her experience growing up in the western islands of Scotland. Mooneye Studios published the game and helped in numerous ways, from marketing to animation to QA. We were fortunate to work with a wonderful cast of voice actors, musicians, animators, localisers and playtesters who all helped bring the game to life.

What kind of experiences do you hope to bring players?
Farewell North is a slow burn, an emotional adventure through grief and memories, but we never set out to make a “sad game.” While there are often tears along the way, the goal has always been to leave players feeling uplifted and optimistic.
In 10 words or less, highlight the appeal of the game?
