What would be your description of your game?

 

“Science Labs!” is a stylized top down, chaotic physics-based puzzle and adventure game, set in a sprawling top secret underground laboratory, where you as a freshly defrosted Lab Technician, get to perform various scientific experiments, to complete challenges, unlock new areas and cause chaos for the other workers. To uncover the secrets of the Lab.

 

How did development start?

 

Development started back in our First Year of University (January 2024), studying at University Campus Doncaster. It was initially used as our Final Major Project for the year. And since then, we’ve been working on it, on and off, outside of Uni as well as other personal projects.


Were there any key inspirations or ideas that drove you?

 

Our key inspirations for “Science Labs” were “Human Fall Flat” “Good Job” “and “Gang Beasts”, which have similar themes and mechanics. But with our own added twists and personality. We also both adore games such as the “Portal” series, and noticed that there aren’t a lot of games that fit into that same market. So this is our take on that!

 

Tell us about the Team behind the game?

 

Our team consists of 2 Full Time developers, and a third additional Animator:

Connor Jackson: Full Time Technical Designer and Sound Designer
Stephen Ryan: Full Time Technical Artist and Environment Artist
Tyler Maw: Part Time Animator

 

What kind of experiences do you hope to bring to players?

 

We hope to bring back “couch co-op chaotic” gameplay (although multiplayer isn’t included in any current build. It is a milestone that we will be working towards). Where you can get together with a few friends, or play solo, and explore the initial storyline and uncover the secrets of the facility together OR join into a sandbox mode (PvP, PvE. PvPvE) and compete for the highest scores!

 

In 10 words or less, highlight the appeal of the game?

 

Throw people into a black hole, eat snacks, drop-kick aliens.

Currently, we are working on a complete, ground-up rebuild. Building on new knowledge and technology implementations for Optimizations, as well as Look-Dev and mechanics. But our previous stable Demo build is available on itch.io at: Science Labs! by 314Face, CJackson99
