Forklift Certified: Stacked and Loaded by Projector Games

What would be your description of your game?

Forklift Certified: Stacked & Loaded is a frantic 4-player co-op party game where chaos reigns, forklifts drift, crates fly, and teamwork is… encouraged, but not enforced. It’s Overcooked meets warehouse safety violations—stacks and stacks of levels full of honking, stacking, crashing fun.

How did development start? (Were there any key inspirations or ideas that drove you?)

When I was working in the Xbox Live Indie Games space, part of the ‘social contract’ was reviewing the other games. Usually it was a huge slog, testing really broken games, written by industry hopefuls. But I played one called Storage Inc.-  it was brilliant! I played every level happily, and signed it off. I got talking to my co-conspirator, Rich, and chatted about it. I looked at the sequel on Steam, which was received dreadfully, and I was all “I want to play it again tho” – XNA games just simply are no longer playable. So Rich and I dusted off an ancient codebase I’d started back in 2010 or so, and brought it to completion! We’ve veered radically away from the original design, but the crux of the game is the same; move crates around a warehouse using forklifts. Overcooked meets Diner Dash with just a touch of Wilmot’s Warehouse.

Tell us about the team behind the game!

It’s a 2-man team, primarily. Adam, the programmer, has been full-time Indie for 15 years now, and his titles include the mega-hit FortressCraft and YouTube darling Ampu-Tea. Prior to that, he was a AAA game programmer, specialising in racing game audio. He most fondly remembers working on the Burnout and Colin McRae series.

Rich is responsible for the level design, and ensuring Adam doesn’t get too carried away with explosions and particles. His career manages to stretch back to the early 90s, and includes Street Fighter 2, Archer Maclean’s Mercury and Lego Island 2.

A couple of industry vets, we’re amongst the last of the 2-man dev teams.

What kind of experiences do you hope to bring players?

After remembering Storage Inc. even existed, I did a little research, and it turned out to be the game that inspired Overcooked, a game I’ve sunk a huge number of hours into. We tried to sprinkle a little Magicka into it too – that moment when everyone is shouting “I’ve got it! I’ll do it!” and it goes absolutely catastrophically wrong. Add in a little Unrailed, and you end up with shared moments of glorious failure, accidental success, and co-op magic—whether you’re playing on the couch or across the internet.

In 10 words or less, highlight the appeal of the game!

4 friends. 4 forklifts. 1 warehouse. Unlimited chaos. Maximum shouting.
