GaMaYo 23 Showcase #23:
The Void Between

More than 45 new games will be on show at GaMaYo on 21st November with 400 developers attending the event to try them out alongside publishers, investors and platform holders. The event is managed by Game Republic along with their Official Partners Red Kite Games, Barclays Games and Creative and Escape Technology

We look at demo number 23 confirmed to be at the event – a game from Key Compass Games

What would be your description of your game?

“When one man’s dream holiday turns into a nightmare, its up to you to save him from himself…”
The Void Between is supernatural thriller that blends puzzling point & click gameplay and a surreal story with an FMV aesthetic.

How did development start? Were there any key inspirations or ideas that drove you?

The catalyst for development was a G-Develop game jam. The theme of which was ‘Diving Deeper’ which is why our protagonist (spoiler alert) falls/dives into a mysterious Void. The development was driven by the opportunity for two brothers to combine their mutual passions for making games and making films – why not both? The game takes inspiration from classic point & click adventures like Broken Sword and story-driven survival horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Cinematic references include M. Night Shamalyan films and The Duffer Brothers Stranger Things.

Tell us about the team behind the game?

We are two brother based in the borders who combined passions for making films and making games into The Void Between.

What kind of experiences do you hope to bring players?

We want gamers to really feel immersed as the protagonist in the story. Having a holiday go awfully a wry is bad enough, but what happens when it becomes paranormal too? Expect surreal scenarios, other-worldly encounters and formidable challenges set by a sinister (yet familiar) stranger. We especially hope gamers who have never experienced an FMV-style game before, enjoy the journey.
