Mithra by Seventh Disorder

What would be your description of your game?

Mithra is a 2D hand-drawn narrative mystery where forgotten gods, urban labyrinths and conspiratorial puzzles collide in a modern myth you live through. Players will explore richly textured, hand-crafted environments and uncover the hidden influence of Mithraism across continents and centuries, from London’s alleyways & Beijing’s hutongs to Rome’s underground sanctuaries.

With a haunting original score, reactive soundscapes, and a structure inspired by the tension of immersive ARGs and slow-burn twisty cinema, Mithra invites players to decode a modern myth stitched together with historical fiction, character-driven mystery, and interactive depth.

How did development start? (Were there any key inspirations or ideas that drove you?)

Mithra started as an idea for a novel Dan had been workshopping with a publisher for a couple of years before meeting Jared in Beijing. Dan wanted to embed puzzles throughout the story but was having trouble realising how to make it flow as a book. Jared suggested that the way in which he wanted to tell the story would be better suited as an adventure game drawing inspiration from classic titles like Broken Sword. After very little convincing Dan agreed and the pair began prototyping in late 2023.

Tell us about the team behind the game?

At present, we exist as a core team of 5. Co-founders Dan (narrative) and Jared (programming) drive the day to day development of the game supported by freelancers Tim (concept artist), Kater (character art and animations) and Bronson (sound design and music).

What kind of experiences do you hope to bring players?

We want our players to be fully immersed in their investigations and provide the feeling of getting lost down a mysterious and unsettling rabbit hole.

In 10 words or less, highlight the appeal of the game?

Investigate the mysteries of a cult thought lost to time.
