Shutterspeed, by Overtaker Games
What would be your description of your game?
Shutterspeed is a 2D platformer starring a camera-themed superhero, who is tasked with travelling through virtual worlds and defeating each world’s guardian so he can escape into the real world and destroy the evil AI Heatbones before it takes over the world. Shutterspeed’s tripod club has different uses such as destroying enemies and drilling through walls, but his greatest move is his camera flash ability which freezes what’s in front of him like a photograph, players must figure out the best areas to use the camera flash so they can progress and defeat particular enemies. You can’t stop Shutterspeed, but he can stop you!
How did development start? (Were there any key inspirations or ideas that drove you?)
I’ve been enjoying platforming games for as long as I can remember. Since I started making computer games for the past three years, (the two most recent ones I did being fangames based on existing properties), I’m now in the mood to create an original game in the genre I enjoy with a bigger emphasis on story compared to the more arcade-style games I made previously. I came up with the title character after I played South Park: The Fractured but Whole in 2020 and wondered what my superhero identity would be if I was a South Park kid playing alongside the main characters. I was doing a lot of photography to entertain myself back during the COVID-19 pandemic so that naturally lead to me thinking of a camera-themed hero. I got really hooked onto the idea and pledged to myself I would make something starring this character during my lifetime.

Tell us about the team behind the game?
Overtaker Games is (currently) a one-man team. I’m responsible for all of the programming, visuals and sound in this game.
What kind of experiences do you hope to bring players?
