GaMaYo 25 Showcase Clockwork Concoctions

What would be your description of your game?

 

‘Clockwork Concoctions’ is an arcade-styled game where you play as a wizard who must brew potions and use time manipulation powers to prevent succumbing to a cursed fate whilst earning gold and eventually achieving ascension. As you navigate up and down the clock tower to manage ingredients and your wizardly workstations, you can discover recipes either through research or by trial-and-error, and you must follow them to a tee by ensuring ingredients go in the correct order as you may accidentally concoct a wacky potion.

 

How did development start? (Were there any key inspirations or ideas that drove you?)

 

Clockwork Concoctions was originally a submission for a game jam during the summer of 2025 where we had a week to brainstorm, develop and release a game based around the idea of time. As soon as the jam’s theme was announced, we gathered as a team to immediately begin brainstorming, and after a good bit of spit-balling, we settled on the idea of a rapidly aging wizard brewing concoctions to stop himself from aging to death (This narrative has been updated in our latest rendition of the game). We eventually kept having ideas about things we could have put into the game if we had longer than a week that the jam gave us, so with a new timeframe and renewed spirit, we decided to continue development beyond the jam! We are more than excited to bring an updated version of Clockwork Concoctions to this month’s GaMaYo, adding more content and polishing it up to be even better than the jam submission.

 

Tell us about the team behind the game?

StudioPilled is a remote team of game developers based around West Yorkshire, stemming from a combination of new and old friends alike, with the aim to create eccentric and addictive games that are backed with compelling stories and worlds. Our first game release was Terms & Conditions which we have demo’d twice in the past. With a growing team and higher budgets, we went from developing game demos for jams, to going full Indie and have begun development on larger, more ambitious titles that we are pouring our love into. Although we are not ready to showcase a complete vertical slice of our next upcoming game, there may be an opportunity to sample a gameplay loop of our secret project for those willing to play after demoing Clockwork Concoctions.

What kind of experiences do you hope to bring players?

Terms & Conditions was a fun idea, but we wanted to deliver an even more exciting and chaotic arcade-styled gameplay loop with an end goal in mind. Clockwork Concoctions will have players rummaging through their recipe books, battling against the clock and managing their economy of ingredients as they multitask their way to wizardly ascension. We will be keeping note of high scores at GaMaYo and will reveal who scored the highest after the day of the event! 🙂
