Echo: The Oracle’s Scroll by Bumbleborn

What would be your description of your game?

Echo: The Oracle’s Scroll is a non-violent metroidvania, focused on jumping puzzles and exploration. It’s a Playdate game with a DX version on the way for Steam and potentially consoles.

How did development start? (Were there any key inspirations or ideas that drove you?)

I was working on a 3D metroidvania / platformer when I realised how long it would take to finish, so I paused it and started a tiny demake / prequel for the Playdate after becoming obsessed with the little yellow console.
Echo is my take on Zelda mixed with ideas from Hollow Knight, to be really specific though the world & story is inspired by a moment in Zelda: Wind Waker where you explore Hyrule Castle whilst all life is petrified.

Tell us about the team behind the game!

It was pretty much solo dev, I’m Joseph Fletcher-Ward (Bumbleborn on the web) and I’ve been in the industry for roughly 8 years, despite that I’ve not released much due to projects getting cancelled or put on hiatus. Echo feels like my first real video game, so I’ve been blown away by the reception to it. There was some additional VO work from my partner as well!

What kind of experiences do you hope to bring players?

The fun exploration of a metroidvania without the difficulty that can come from combat, mixed with an intriguing story and quirky little puzzles.

In 10 words or less, highlight the appeal of the game!

Explore a petrified kingdom to aid oddball monarchs.
